Heating engineer, Luton: boilers, heat pumps, and everything that makes a system work.

Heating engineer, Luton and beyond: I cover the heating work most properties actually need — gas boilers, heat pumps, hot water, underfloor heating, plant rooms, controls, and the heat-loss and design work behind getting a system right. Gas Safe registered (577195, domestic up to 70 kW), WaterSafe through CIPHE, G3-qualified for unvented hot water, and an IGEM Licensed Gas Technician. Factory-trained on Vaillant, Worcester Bosch, Ideal and Intergas boilers, and on Daikin, Vaillant, Viessmann, Ideal and Grant heat pumps. The person who quotes the job is the one who does it.

Repair · service · install

Gas boilers

Replacement boilers, new installations, annual services, fault diagnosis and gas safety certificates — combi, system and heat-only (regular) boilers and their cylinders, vessels and pumps. Factory-trained on Vaillant, Worcester Bosch, Ideal and Intergas, so I can register the install and offer the manufacturer’s extended warranty (typically 7–12 years). Air & ground source

Heat pumps

Install, commission and service air- and ground-source heat pumps from Daikin, Vaillant, Viessmann, Ideal and Grant, with manufacturer training and extended warranties. Heat pump work is more demanding than a boiler swap: a gas system runs at 70–80°C, a heat pump at 35–50°C, carrying less heat per litre — so it needs a room-by-room heat-loss calculation, correct radiator sizing and correct pipework sizing, or the rooms won’t get warm. I do that analysis as part of any quote. Heat pump repair & installation →

Wet & electric

Underfloor heating

Manifolds, blending valves, actuators and controls, plus the diagnostic work when a circuit underperforms — I trace cold spots, blockages and leaks with thermal imaging rather than lifting floors to look. Underfloor heating →

G3 unvented

Hot water

Unvented and vented cylinders, buffer tanks, calorifiers, immersion heaters, thermal stores and their controls. G3-qualified for unvented (pressurised) cylinders and WaterSafe-registered through CIPHE. Plumbing & hot water →

Heatmiser

Heating controls

From a basic room thermostat to weather- and load-compensating systems that run the boiler at the lowest effective flow temperature — which is where the real savings are, often around 10–15% over basic on/off control. The brand I stand by is Heatmiser (it keeps working offline); plus manufacturer compensation (Vaillant vSMART, Worcester EasyControl), TRVs, KNX for larger properties, and multi-zone wired or wireless systems. I’ll also work with controls you already have. More on the integration side on my Electrical page.

Sludge gone

Powerflushing

Cold-at-the-bottom radiators, slow warm-ups and banging noises usually mean sludge. I do the proper job — chemical flush, full rinse, refill with corrosion inhibitor (and biocide where needed) — and flush as standard before every new install, which many warranties require. A permanent filter (Magnaclean, Adey, Spirotech) keeps it from coming back. Powerflushing →

Schools · care homes · blocks

Plant rooms & commercial heating

For larger properties I cover the wider system: pipework, manifolds, cylinders, buffer tanks, calorifiers, heat exchangers, pumps, valves, pressurisation units, expansion vessels, and the hydraulic balancing that makes a multi-zone system actually work. Where the gas appliance itself is within my certification scope (domestic up to 70 kW) I’ll do that too; where it isn’t, I’ll tell you and either work alongside someone qualified for that element, or take care of everything around it. I don’t refuse work because of complexity — I’ll discuss what I can do, openly. Commercial & regulated work →

Room by room

Heat-loss & design

A proper room-by-room heat-loss calculation is the foundation of any good heating design — without it radiators get mis-sized, heat pumps specified wrong, and you pay to heat draughts. I do this for new installs, system upgrades, heat pump specifications and efficiency surveys. M&E design & calculations →

CP12 · legionella

Compliance

Landlord gas safety certificates (CP12), boiler service schedules that keep manufacturer warranties valid, and legionella risk assessments for hot water systems. More on regulated work on my Commercial & Regulated page.

How I work & what it costs

One engineer, clear pricing

How I work

The person who quotes does the work

Most jobs I carry out directly — one engineer who turns up, knows the work and sees it through. For larger projects I bring in trusted specialists I’ve worked alongside for years.

Pricing

No surprise bills

Fixed-price quotes for defined projects — the price I quote is the price you pay, materials and labour included. Hourly work (breakdowns, servicing, diagnostics) is charged at a rate agreed before I start, plus materials. Maintenance contracts for landlords and care providers are priced per property or per visit.

Warranty

24 months, plus manufacturer cover

Every job I carry out is covered by a 24-month workmanship warranty. On equipment I install where I’m factory-trained, the manufacturer’s extended warranty (typically 7–12 years) applies on top.

Talk to the engineer.

A boiler or heat pump to repair, service or replace, a system that’s never quite right, controls to sort, or a heating design for a new project — call. Phone advice is free, and often I can tell you what’s going on before a visit. For a suspected gas leak, call the National Gas Emergency line first on 0800 111 999.
